Millicent is the partnership of Hillary Rondero and Michel Van Devender. Together they head a versatile, multi-faceted design studio based in Charlotte, NC. These dynamic designers and ever-evolving curators have a modern eclectic vibe and are known for effortlessly combining styles to create distinctive and livable spaces.

Millicent Design is available to assist you in all aspects of your design project from start to finish (and everything in between), including the design of pools, new construction, renovations, working comfortably alongside builders, subs and architects. Hill and michel believe in creating spaces that reflect the personality of its inhabitants and tell a unique story of their lives in an imaginative, interesting and thoughtful way.

Rondero’s love for design started as a young child visiting new home sites with her grandmother and grandfather, a new homes agent and a builder in town. Construction sites were a regular part of her childhood. A love for creating balance in a space evolved into a great passion for all things “design”. After graduation, she and her husband Pat moved from Virginia to Los Angeles, where another chapter was written in Hillary’s design journey. California truly resonated with Hillary and her love for bright, natural spaces with plenty of texture and refined finishes. This is not to be overshadowed by a commitment to constantly taking risk in design. A mix of old and new gives each client a unique space which they can continue to layer and enrich over time. Hillary believes a design should feel alive and always evolving to achieve balance and create a desired mood.

Michel’s inherent love of design surfaced from a young age. She was raised in a family full of artists, designers and craftsmen, constantly surrounded and influenced by creative people. As a child, Michel dedicated an unusual amount of time decorating, rearranging and organizing her rooms. Like Rondero, Michel’s grandfather was a builder, and she spent much of her childhood on and around construction sites and the business. Over the years, Michel’s design style has evolved into an eclectic modern mix, achieved through an intuitive balance of space, materials, finishes, textures and contrasts. She believes that form and function can co-exist and enjoys working with clients to create interesting, beautiful spaces. Michel has lived in Charlotte for the past 25 years and is a native of North Carolina, growing up in neighboring Concord. Michel shares a home with her husband, Ladd, and their three boys and French Bulldog.
